Biography
This is my little biography starting from the moment I set foot in Los Angeles. The story begins when I moved in back in 2008 with a lot of hope and ambition without knowing too much where things would bring me. Having a background in electronic product design, I figured that it would be my way in. 1 month after being installed in Marina Del Rey, I learn that the maker of the main component of my system goes bankrupt hence no product to sell. I got my purse stolen with all my papers inside (including the passport) pretty much the same week. It was a jolly good time. Few months later, my company's primary investor pulls the plug on me without warning. 2 months later, I almost went bankrupt, I finally manage to find some funding, enough to make me survive. In between, I ended up sleeping on somebody else's couch for a couple of weeks with a very noisy flat mate. With the extra money, I set out to design a 3D camera in one single body which I achieve during the following year. Finally, the design is nothing close to what the professional really want, so it is back to drawing board. At this point, I am still very far from my real goal, being in LA and all. I finally revise my design to be a single headed camera instead but before I can make it to the finish line, I run out of money again and despite the side contract and my deepest effort, I finally reach my breaking point in August 2011 where some attempt are being done to go work for somebody else but in vain, I have to admit defeat. I pack my shit, I sell half of my stuff so I can make it back home...
Few months have passed, I am still sleeping on somebody else's couch (for few months this time). At the end of Oct 2011, I am offered a chance of a lifetime... I get the chance to come back. Settling in mid Nov 2011, I am invited at the Beverly Hills Play House by a friend that previously invited before. This is a Tuesday night and Allen Barton is teaching that night. For some reason, he does a little bit of on line directing and this is the moment I realized that is what I wanted to do (that was a real epiphany) 4 weeks later, I was starting at BHP. 1 month later, I was presenting my first directed scene (K-PAX) in class. I think Allen was somewhat surprised of the end result. In February 2012, I present my second directed scene (it's too complicated), the critique turned out to be better then the first one. I finally realized that I have a knack for directing but little did I know that I would be on the verge of a more important breakthrough few months later. At the end of April 2012, I finally present my third scene (A very long scene from "A street car named Desired"). Well, it did not take too much time for me to crash and burn. Not enough time to rehearse (did not rehearsed enough), casting is somewhat off, the night of the scene Blanche is too grounded (grounded is not a good state of mind for Blanche), Stella is too emotional and Stanley is not quite Stanley. Suffice to say that I am upset by the end results, not the actors or the critique, just myself. For believing that I could do something like that without being burned along the way. But yet again, this is one of those moment where failure is the prelude for an awesome "EPIPHANY". It just so happen, this is the night where Allen, pushes me to sit down and start writing something. I, as usual, stubborn, argue and procrastinate. I finally agree that yes it might the right time to do some writing. 2 Days later, my first script was written. It took me, 5 hours and I could not stop. Sera's Chronicles: The Prologue was created. A couple of months later, I was putting it together and you can see the end results on this site. The pre-production started in May 2012, June 2012, the main scene was shot in 2 days with about 5 useable hours during each day. In July 2012, the short was finished. Despite its great quality, the short film remained somewhat difficult to use as a normal short since the topic of conversation was not very accessible and also the very static nature of the scene did not attract the Festival people to include it in their line up.
After a month to decide what would be the next course of action, I finally sit down mid-September to start writing a feature based on the character of the short. Within one month I wrote the first part of the Chronicles of Sera. After finishing the first part, I decide to let it sit and I set out to write the second part thinking that any production company would like to have access to both. End of October is the moment I finish writing the second part. Not totally satisfied of how the second part turned out, I agree with myself to let it be this way till it needs to be improved. After all this writing I decide to go back to school in Nov 2012, giving myself the time to think what would be the next step. At that point I have the idea to actually produce the first part of Sera's Chronicles, I feel confident about the task but so was I when I decided to do the scene from Street Car. I just think again, and realize that my ego just want me to go for broke and I tell my ego to go sit down in the corner because there is no way I am getting into the production of a feature with that little experience. It is a recipe for a disaster, it just doesn't make sense. The deal is, I am not in rush and I just come to terms with the idea that I need to do more. More directing and more writing. So, this is what I am going to do in 2013, a lot more writing and a lot more Directing, so it is back to school in January so I can put up a lot of scene from my writings. So this is, this is where I am at right now...
